Velvet Cave
We were rather taken with the Jean Shrimpton inspired outfits taking centre stage in the BBC TV drama, We’ll Take Manhattan. Did you see it? Well take note if you did because we’ve got a dress that fans of Doctor Who star Karen Gillan will be sure to take to!
You’ll do a double take when you see how similar it is to the pea green shift dress that Karen can be seen wearing in the publicity shots taken for the programme. If you’d like to take advantage of this marvellous opportunity, there are a VERY limited amount available to buy NOW on our eBay page!
We’ve also taken the liberty of creating some colour and fabric variations on the theme so you may wish to take a chance and take two… or even three!
Take a look right now! And don’t take too long to take your choice… there’s only a few dresses available and they’re sure to be taken in next to no time!

Become a ’60s Style Icon this Christmas (without breaking the bank)!
In December of 2009, we visited London’s Pall Mall to view a collection of beautiful dresses that had belonged to the late Audrey Hepburn. These were being auctioned by Kerry Taylor Auctions and we knew that the prices were likely to sky-rocket! A particular favourite was Lot 309: a Rose Bertin scarlet velvet cocktail dress from 1967 (above, right).
As the festive season gets underway, why not take a leaf from Audrey’s book and get glammed up in a vintage red velvet cocktail dress? The gorgeous party frock that’s currently listed on the Velvet Cave eBay shop (above, left) is finished with a marabou feather trim and would positively sizzle at any Christmas or New Year shindig! It’s strikingly similar to Audrey’s choice but in order to own this one, you won’t need to steal a million!

New stock on eBay: dresses, boots and shoes!
Take a look at the current Velvet Cave collection (on eBay now!) and you’ll no doubt fall in love with a medieval style red velvet dress with black and gold trim. We’ve only got one of these available (apart from my own one, of course, which I won’t be parting with any time soon!), so don’t miss out on this remarkable opportunity!
The dress was inspired by a design worn by Pattie Boyd (former wife to both George Harrison and Eric Clapton) in the photograph above (from Petticoat magazine, 5 July 1969). Pattie is pictured with her sister Jenny and the original dress was a product of the explosion of creativity surrounding fashionable late ’60s design collective, The Fool.
The outfits and photograph are credited to innovator of psychedelic photography, Karl Ferris and probably date from around 1967. I’m not sure why it took Petticoat so long to publish the picture but Ferris is described in the accompanying text as ‘trying to get [the designs] marketed’. I can’t help wondering why, at the height of his fame, Ferris would have required any assistance in achieving such a goal!
By the time the picture was taken, Ferris was already working closely with Dutch artists Simon Posthuma and Marijke Koger who he had discovered among the hippie community on the Spanish island of Ibiza in 1966. He had taken photographs of clothes designed by the pair and sent them to London where they were published in The Times and immediately caused a sensation.
In the light of this success, The Fool relocated to London and opened a studio with Ferris. The Dutch artists produced clothes and art while Ferris pursued photography. Thanks to his psychedelic work with The Fool, he became one of the preferred photographers of the 1960s British rock elite.
